Transport minister experiences Visteon’s autonomous vehicle in Germany
Transport Minister Winfried Hermann from the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg in Germany took a test drive in a Visteon autonomous vehicle during a July 3 visit to the new autonomous driving test track in Karlsruhe. The Baden-Wuerttemberg test track provides an important proving ground for technology companies and research institutes to test new developments and services related to networked and automated driving, both in urban traffic as well as on motorways.
The minister experienced Visteon’s autonomous test vehicle, based on an Audi A6, equipped with cameras, radar and Lidar sensors for object detection and classification, as well as Visteon’s DriveCore™ autonomous driving platform.
The DriveCore™ platform uses a modular and flexible approach based on an open hardware and software platform that allows automakers, developers and technology suppliers to collaborate on innovations for assisted and autonomous driving. Its scalable approach is designed to meet all levels of automation – providing an advantage over currently available offerings.
The large quantity of sensor data which is generated for future autonomous vehicles can no longer be processed by conventional means. With DriveCore™, Visteon has developed a modular and scalable hardware and software system capable of evolving with the growing requirements for autonomous driving.

These also include systems for driver assistance and autonomous driving, for which Visteon provides its own hardware and software solutions. Visteon’s advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) team is responsible for developing central control units for driver assistance and autonomous driving. It integrates teams around the world to develop ambient detection, sensor fusion, route planning and steering, and other functions, utilizing artificial intelligence methods.
